SOME DESIGNS
One of my pastimes throughout my life was designing my own inventions, which, aside from the musical or photo-video graphic ones, were close to materialize. My aversion to bureaucratic procedures, however, as well as my lack of will to follow them, resulted in these ideas remaining as small anecdotes among friends.
To my own amazement, however, I finally see myself in front of one of them that today, June 2016, I can show and, also, invite you to purchase. More are on the way.
They will start to appear in this new section of my page “Miscellaneous Designs”. Given the well-known economic instability in Argentina, I prefer to set the price if and when you’re interested in one of them.
Please write to me at info@jorgecumbo.com.ar when you are.
There will be simple and exclusive bijouteries, musical instruments and who knows what other occurrences.
Take a look and/or listen to them.
ABOUT ME
I was born in La Plata, Argentina and since the 60’s on I’ve been making Argentine music.
1960 / 1970 During this period I formed the vocal group "Los 4 Colores" where I played, sang and made the voice arrangements.
I also formed the "Quinteto Vocal Tiempo" where I was only in charge of the arrangements.
I studied Orchestral Direction for three years at the “Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes” in La Plata, Argentina.
1970/1976 Between 1970 and 1976 I relocated to Paris, France, through a scholarship to study contemporary music with Pierre Schaeffer.
I became a member of the group "Los Incas", and after hearing the Great Uña Ramos play his reeds, I submerged myself totally into the Andean instruments, especially aerophones.
I embarked in a five-year concert tour through many countries, including about eighty performances with the “Paul Simon Tour” (1973-74) as a part of a group called “Urubamba” through Europe, Japan and the US.
"El Cóndor Pasa" recorded by "Los Incas" and sung by Simon and Garfunkel it was invading the planet and, Andean music was thus introduced.
1976 / 1990 I Returned to Argentina and devoted myself to my own music.
The groups that I remember most were the "Cumbo"" groups, "Cumbo-Vitale-González", "La Banda Andina", the duets with Leo Masliah and Manolo Juárez, "Los Amigos del Chango", my participations as a guest with Pedro y Pablo, Piero, Pastoral, Susana Rinaldi, Mercedes Sosa, Cantilo Punch, Peteco Carabajal, León Gieco, Víctor Heredia, Raúl Carnota, Cuchi Leguizamón, and others.
1990 / 2013 I relocated again to France, form the "Trio Cumbo" together with Ricardo Moyano and Gerardo DiGiusto, performing in France and Turkey. From 1998 to 2005 I traveled all over Japan with my music, as a soloist and with various groups, even singing Tango. The voice was my first instrument.
Probably this helped since I was subsequently called by the coral of Toulouse "XINUM" to compose an Argentine cantata in five movements, which we took from Toulouse to Paris, stopping at various other cities. I was playing my Quena and singing.
I was living and working between France, Japan, Argentina and Spain, where I settled in 2003.
2013 I came back to my country, where I am residing today. I am a member of Peteco Carabajal’s group as percussionist and aerophone player.
In November 2015 I played my first concert with the “Orquesta Municipal de Bahía Blanca” (preceded by another one in France, in 2003).
My project “Cumbo Strings” is moving forward with some concerts already done and more coming up. Last May 13th, I played in Cordoba (Province) with the String Quintet "Magnolia" for the “Congreso de Vientistas” (Wind Players Congress). Several others, are programmed, for the near future.
